Bright annealing:
Annealing may also result in discoloration of machined surfaces, which is not desirable in many cases. In order to avoid this phenomenon, annealing has to be done in a protective medium. Generally inert gases like nitrogen or argon are used as a protective medium for annealing. Due to the presence of the protective medium the metal will retain its original surface brightness even after annealing. Since the metal retains the brightness after the treatment it is called bright annealing.
